Taylor 314 CE vs Maton EBG 808 C – Acoustic Guitar Shootout | Adam Rafferty

By Adam Rafferty 3 Comments

I hope you enjoy this “acoustic guitar shootout” between my Taylor 314 CE vs Maton EBG 808 C (Michael Fix Model)

I have been playing my Maton Michael Fix model Guitar faithfully for about 11 years now, but in some of my recent videos, I’ve been drawn to my Taylor 314 CE.

Many viewers asked “did you switch back to Taylor?” or “Where’s the Maton?”

No, it’s not a “switch” I just like changing things up! And since I am home due to Corona Lockdowns, it’s giving me a chance to revisit some of the guitars in my collection!

In this video, I’ll compare the Acoustic properties of each guitar and also compare the Pickup / Preamp / DI sounds.

Great video Adam! Long time listener first time caller. I currently have a Tanglewood TW28CE and have been trying to convince myself (and wife!) to upgrade to the 314 (been saving for a while)…I think this video has finally convinced me….I don’t know if my wife will be happy about that 😉

    Hi Adam!
Totally agree! Acoustically, the Taylor has more “live” than the Maton, which sounds kind of mute in comparison. On the other hand, indeed, the plugged-in sound of the Maton is fantastic! That bass sound gives such a powerful and neat accompaniment to the rest of the playing, it sounds like an external bass giving such a beautiful result to the whole melody. I used my headphones to better appreciate these nuances. Of course, needless to say, your professional playing makes everything so pleasant to hear!
I myself have a Taylor 12-fret (that is how they labeled this model when they came up with this design, which now extends to several models) and I really love it! I mostly play at home, acoustically, so it fits well with your observation and recommendations.
    Thank you, Adam.

I know just what you mean…I have a lovely 414ce 30 yr Anniversary that has a big, full sound, that I love. But plugged in…. Sounds like yours with the b and g strings tones I just don’t like. But my stage guitar is my trusty Maton Performer. For the same reason. It’s easy to get a great acoustic sound plugged in. Unplugged Matons have their own distinctive sound that I really enjoy, just not as loud. Thanks for your inspiration. I enjoy learning some of your arrangements. Love the tutorials!
