Study With Adam Guitar Legend – Nick Northcott

By Adam Rafferty 1 Comment

For those who believe in the transformative power of music, the story of Perth-based guitarist, Nick Northcott, serves as an inspiration. His journey spanning 30 years resonates with passion, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to mastering his craft. From a humble farm on Kangaroo Island to the vibrant city life of Perth, Australia, Northcott’s love for the guitar has remained a constant, leading him to become a celebrated Study With Adam Guitar Legend.

I got a chance to talk with Nick about his music, and we had a great time making this video.

Nick Northcott joined Study with Adam (SWA) on January 15th, 2020, and has since seen remarkable development in his playing style. The platform has not only taught him how to incorporate groove into fingerstyle playing but also simplified complex pieces by focusing on two or three-string chords. This has empowered him to learn intricate compositions.

Currently, Northcott is working on “Heavy Heart” by Australian band You Am I and “Call Me the Breeze” by JJ Cale. His go-to guitars are a Taylor 214ce and a 1990 Maton Custom Diamantina dreadnaught, which perfectly complement his groove-oriented style.

Northcott’s musical taste is as wide-ranging as his skills, with an emphasis on rhythm, melody, and emotional resonance. His favorite guitarists include Jeff Lang, Tim Rogers, Joey Santiago, Jimmy Hendrix, and Leo Kottke, reflecting his eclectic musical influences.

Watch Nick Northcott’s impressive guitar skills in this video:

Nick’s journey is not just about becoming a better musician, but also about maintaining a strong connection with his roots. No matter where his music takes him, he always finds time to return to his family farm on Kangaroo Island.

Nick Northcott’s story serves as a testament to the value of lifelong learning and the transformative power of music. His achievements underscore the essence of what it means to be an SWA Guitar Legend: passion, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to the pursuit of musical excellence.
